Visual & Written Communication

Discussion, Discovery, Design, Build.

Most projects follow a similar trajectory to completion:

  • Initial discussion (30 mins to 2 hrs)
  • Request for Proposal (submitted by client) with a detailed list of work that needs to be completed, or a Design Brief (submitted by me) for approval by client.
  • Project Estimate and Deposit (30-50 percent required to start work)
  • Set up timeline for deliverables
  • Design exploration (research, mood boards, style tiles, etc)
  • Present Designs
  • Revisions by Client
  • Present Revised Designs
  • Build out project (in the case of a website)
  • Create styleguide (if desired)

I quote most web-related jobs on an hourly basis, but can offer a fixed price for certain design projects. My rates are competitive for the Los Angeles marketplace.

Education & Giving

Two degrees are better than one!

BA in Communication (print journalism)—California State University, Fullerton, 1988. I worked as a reporter on the college newspaper, The Daily Titan, and later worked for the Saddleback Valley News in Mission Viejo, CA, where I earned two writing awards, and the Daily Pilot in Costa Mesa, CA.

BA in Graphic Design (motion emphasis)—Art Center College of Design, Pasadena California. 2000. I graduated with honors and placed in an international poster composition. I later set-up a small studio and work remotely on both short and long-term projects from Monrovia, CA.

Making Stuff Better

Basic Income Earth Network—I am on the Executive Committe as a Communications Coordinator for the Basic Income Earth Network, which is primarily a news resource for Basic Income-related stories around the world. I believe that rapid changes in the workforce will soon make the idea of basic income hard to ignore.

United Hope for Animals—I have been involved with fostering and networking homeless pets for many years. At various times I have served as photographer, videographer, dog handler, and whatever comes up. United Hope for Animals is a passionate group of volunteers that work tirelessly at LA shelters find adopters for homeless animals at risk of euthanasia in Southern California.

Just for Fun

Miscellaney, just for the heck of it.

Random stuff I have created:

Odd tidbits about me:

  • I completed U.S. Army "bootcamp" basic training in Ft. Knox.
  • I worked as a waitress in Florence, Italy, in a former convent.
  • I have been chased down the road by an angry turkey.
  • I studied fencing with a former Olympic champion.

Personal credo:

  • You don't have to have perfect English to tell a good story.
  • Your dog has a lot to teach you.
  • Doing what is right is contagious.
  • Figuring out new things is worth doing on a regular basis.
  • If you like someone, find a way to make them laugh.
